Queen's Tree Luss Village Scotland
Here in the United Kingdom, on 9 September 2015 HM Queen Elizabeth II overtook her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria to become the longest reigning monarch in British history. Since acceding to the throne in 1952, she had, by then, reigned for 63 years and 7 months.
To mark this occasion, Luss Estates, the Luss Community Council and the Luss & Arden Community Development Trust planted a commemorative tree at the entrance to Luss, Loch Lomond, opposite the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel. It is a Red Oak (quercus robur) and its base is surrounded by an inscribed stone circle bearing the names of those who wished to subscribe at the time. A ceremony marked the unveiling of the tree and the stone circle later that month.
Subsequently, others have expressed an interest in being part of this commemoration and it is now open to those who wish to have their names inscribed on an additional, adjacent stone installation.
