The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in North Carolina stand as a pillar of American tradition, celebrating the rich heritage of Scottish clans with unmatched enthusiasm. This year, the event drew over 130 clans, including our esteemed friends from Loch Lomond and notable clans such as Buchanan, Graham, MacEwen, MacFarlane, MacGregor and Hunter. The festival welcomed 40,000 attendees over four exhilarating days. Clan Colquhoun International extended warm hospitality to numerous Kilpatricks, Kirkpatricks, Ingrams, Cahoons, and other septs at their vibrant tents. Here, visitors delved into their ancestral roots, exchanging cherished family histories and tales. Among the visitors were Cody and Annie Pettry of North Carolina, granddaughters of the esteemed Judge Marcus Benton Calhoun, whose pioneering efforts in establishing the Clan Colquhoun North American Society in the late ’70s. Rebecca and Mark Calhoun from South Carolina, early members of Clan Colquhoun International, visiting from Charleston.Highlighting the festivities was the inspiring Torch Light Ceremony, a stirring homage to tradition known as the calling of the clans. Representing Clan Colquhoun with pride was Tom Hodges from Georgia. Keith Calhoun from Virginia carried the clan’s colors during the magnificent Parade of the Tartans, a spectacle that filled the air with pride and honor.

In a crowning moment, Clan Colquhoun received the esteemed “Most Appreciated Clan” Trophy from Games President Mr. Stephen Quillen, affirming their enduring impact and warm reception at the games. Heartfelt thanks go to Sharon and Tom Hodges (GA), Becky and Jim Kilpatrick (GA), Cat Callaway (NC), Kim Baker (NC), Caroline Calhoun (FL), and Keith Calhoun (VA) for their unwavering hospitality in welcoming our extended clan family and hosting the vibrant Clan Colquhoun tent. The Luss Highland Games was an international event hosted by Clan Colquhoun’s Sue Twist and George Kirkpatrick, welcoming members from Sweden and the USA. The Chieftain of the games was Patrick Colquhoun, Younger of Luss. Clan Colquhoun was joined by Clans MacEwen and Buchanan . Visiting Clan Colquhoun members included Tiffany Evans, James Kirkpatrick, Cindy Calhoun, Stephanie Rawson, Miya McCarter, Sandy Perkins, and Heather McManus.
The San Diego Highland Games was hosted by Clan Colquhoun’s Katie and JB Robinson welcoming members from California. Clan Colquhoun was joined by Clan MacFarlane. Visiting Clan Colquhoun members included Karen Johnson, Shelby Reno, Beth Werker, Dwayne Ingram, Collen Grimson, Kirk Johnson and Tiffany Hartmayer.
