About the Host, Panelists and Moderator

Host: Patrick Colquhoun, Younger of Luss

Patrick Colquhoun, Younger of Luss is the eldest son of Sir Malcolm Colquhoun of Luss, Chief of Clan Colquhoun and future Clan Chief. As the son of a Scot and an American, Patrick divides his time between Scotland and the US. Patrick started out in the recruitment industry in London before moving back to his home town of Luss, Loch Lomond in 2016 to pursue an MBA at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. As Assistant CEO of Luss Estates, Patrick is preparing to manage this highly diversified business including in hand farm, game, property, renewables and tourism. He spends his time in Glen Luss with his wife, Lottie, two boys, Arthur and Rory and a menagerie of animals including 2 dogs, 13 sheep, 2 runner ducks and a Shetland pony, and when time permits he and his family enjoy mountain biking, skiing, hiking, paddle boarding and surfing in the Atlantic from their holiday home on the Isle of Tiree!

PANELIST: Jamie, Marquis of Graham

Jamie, Marquis of Graham, is the first son of the Duke of Montrose, Chief of Clan Graham. Born and raised on Loch Lomond-side, Jamie attended the University of Edinburgh and Cape Town University in South Africa. Jamie started his work career in energy and the environment in Brussels before moving to Beijing in 1999. In China Jamie met his wife, Cecilia, who is Italian. Jamie continued to follow his own business interests, mentoring and investing in early stage greentech companies. In recent years Jamie has taken on a growing role in running Montrose Estates, a diverse rural business encompassing renewable energy, livestock, conservation, leisure, tourism & hospitality and forestry enterprises. Jamie and Cecilia split their time between Auchmar, Loch Lomond and Bari, Italy.

Angus Buchanan, Younger of that Ilk

Angus Buchanan is the oldest son of Michael Buchanan of that Ilk. He is currently finishing a masters degree in rural estate management at the Royal Agricultural University. He is typically found somewhere between Scotland, London and China. On a normal year Angus typically attends around 40 formal Scottish country dancing (reeling) events, and often organises smaller such events himself. Angus greatly enjoys attending clan gatherings, games and various local events in Scotland. He also feels deeply privileged to be taking more of an official role in such events since his father Michael became clan chief. Mostly however, he is simply happy to be part of a social system giving people a sense of joy and meaning.

Lucy Buchanan, The Miss Buchanan of Buchanan

Lucy Buchanan, The Miss Buchanan of Buchanan is an 18-year-old Scot currently in her second year of university at King’s College London pursuing the study of Political Economy. She enjoys studying various foreign languages as well as being involved in her hobbies such as figure skating, operatic singing and acting. She loves taking part in clan gatherings and Scottish dancing events and supporting her fellow clansmen and family.

PANELIST: Bruce Buchanan

Bruce Buchanan is the second son of The Buchanan, grew up in Scotland and is currently studying Risk Management at Caledonian University in Glasgow which he hopes will let him pursue a career in Insurance further down the line. It is only recently that he has been introduced to the full spectrum of the world of clans being a global scene and as such has had a brief but very enjoyable time so far, and hopes to become more involved in the future. Outside of this Bruce enjoys working on cars, Scottish country dancing, traveling and organising events that include proper dancing (Reeling).

PANELIST: Thomas Calhoun

Thomas (Tommy) Calhoun is a young newcomer to Clan Colquhoun from central New Jersey, United States, where he studied at and continues to work for Rutgers University. He discovered his relationship to the clan after breaking down a genealogical brick wall by using consumer DNA testing, and offers his support to those wishing to supplement their family history with such technology. He offers a fresh outsider’s perspective to discovering Scottish heritage, and how family and cultural history affects us all today. Tommy recently celebrated the birth of their first son with his wife Samantha. He also serves on the Executive Board of an Irish heritage nonprofit organization the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, Essex Division.

MODERATOR: Van William Calhoun

Van William Calhoun’s American-Scottish roots go deep with many forebears named William Calhoun. He is a self-trained architect, builder, and retired national mortgage banking business developer. Van is also a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain of the small Tugboat Betty June. He has been deeply involved in town government planning on issues of energy, roads, zoning, and finance. He served as the past president of a local performing arts organization and the past commodore of a regional council of boat clubs. Currently he directs the restoration of an historic lighthouse in the Hudson River. He and his wife Environmental Studies Professor Emerita Dr. Susan Senecah live on his family farm settled in 1782 in New York State’s Hudson River Valley. Together, Van and Sue like to be outside whenever possible. They tend gardens, fields, and trails and love birding, wildlife viewing, and all animals. They also enjoy reading, music, history, experiencing different cultures, and travel especially to Scotland and Sweden.

Q&A MODERATOR: Michael Lloyd-Stern

A Yorkshireman, from Leeds in Northern England, Michael is the Executive Director for Clan Colquhoun and splits his time between San Diego and London. Michael enjoyed a successful career in the Broadcasting and Media industry working at Channel 4 and Sky Television and owns a successful international marketing company, Fortuna  Marketing.  At the invitation of Sir Malcolm Colquhoun, Michael began the process of establishing the Clan Colquhoun International Society and put in place the framework to further develop the Society. Michael is proud to be associated with the Clan Colquhoun International Society and is passionate in his involvement in establishing a global presence for it. When not involved with business or Clan Colquhoun, Michael enjoys gardening, DIY, travelling, and playing golf (badly).
